The President of the United States Of America is not a "leader". He/She is a manifestation of the wants and desires of a free, self governing peoples.
If we choose our Representatives in this way, they must be held to the absolute highest standards befitting a person in their position. The backroom deal making and infighting going on in the White House and Congress is worthy of a banana republic, but not the U.S.A.
If I was running for office and someone asked me my stance on abortion , my answer would be this.
"I, as your next President/Senator/Representative don't have the luxury of having a stance. It will be my job to uphold the laws of the land. I will not choose which laws to obey and which ones to not obey. My stances on anything will be dictated to me by the people I represent.
If your asking me as Joe Sixpack private citizen. I feel that, at minimum, 50% of all federal laws violate the intent and the letter of the 10th amendment to the Constitution. Laws concerning personal decisions like this one should be left to the people it concerns"
People seeking higher office should not do it thinking they are smarter than the people they represent. You are there because WE wanted you to tell DC what WE want and feel about any given subject.
But this sort of thinking probably wouldn't get me elected for Dog Catcher, let alone a higher office. I, as a Citizen of Texas, have 2 questions to ask all politicians here and the answer will dictate my vote. I hope and wish for all people who read this will do the same thing.
The question is this:
Will you as my next representative in the office of ________, do as you are told to do by the people who elected you?
If you are found to have violated question #1 will you immediately tender your resignation and make room for someone who will do what they are told to do, and refund all monies paid to you by the people for violating the contract you had with your constituents?
If the answer to both questions is one word, YES , then you will have my vote.
