The American Dream

The President of the United States Of America is not a "leader". He/She is a manifestation of the wants and desires of a free, self governing peoples.

If we choose our Representatives in this way, they must be held to the absolute highest standards befitting a person in their position. The backroom deal making and infighting going on in the White House and Congress is worthy of a banana republic, but not the U.S.A.

If I was running for office and someone asked me my stance on abortion , my answer would be this.

"I, as your next President/Senator/Representative don't have the luxury of having a stance. It will be my job to uphold the laws of the land. I will not choose which laws to obey and which ones to not obey. My stances on anything will be dictated to me by the people I represent.

If your asking me as Joe Sixpack private citizen. I feel that, at minimum, 50% of all federal laws violate the intent and the letter of the 10th amendment to the Constitution. Laws concerning personal decisions like this one should be left to the people it concerns"

People seeking higher office should not do it thinking they are smarter than the people they represent. You are there because WE wanted you to tell DC what WE want and feel about any given subject.

But this sort of thinking probably wouldn't get me elected for Dog Catcher, let alone a higher office. I, as a Citizen of Texas, have 2 questions to ask all politicians here and the answer will dictate my vote. I hope and wish for all people who read this will do the same thing.

The question is this:
Will you as my next representative in the office of ________, do as you are told to do by the people who elected you?
If you are found to have violated question #1 will you immediately tender your resignation and make room for someone who will do what they are told to do, and refund all monies paid to you by the people for violating the contract you had with your constituents?

If the answer to both questions is one word, YES , then you will have my vote.

Review of Sara Paretskys Hardball

I'm afraid Sara has fallen into the trap many fiction writers have. She has let too much of her come to play into the book.
We all know V.I. Warshawski was a little left leaning but, since the story lines have always been compelling, it's always worked well. Until now!

All of a sudden V.I. has gone from being a hard nosed, rough around the edges and always out for the little guy P.I. to a wimpy and more refined leftist.

In the first two hours of this Audiobook you find out she's anti- cop, anti-military, anti-white, pro-Obama, pro-socialist, pro-criminal who thinks that all African-Americans in jail are just misguided souls.

I've read all the books with V.I. as the protagonist and own the movie of the same name. By the way, the choice of Kathleen Turner as V.I. was an absolute genius pick. So I know what I'm talking about.

If you're a leftist, you will think this book is heaven, if you're a rightist, you'll want Paretsky arrested for littering but if you're down the middle you mind find this a boring read without much substance or plot.

You might want to consider the abridged version. It may be a better read, I don't see how it could be worse.

Texas Textbooks

Although I do believe in God and the salvation brought to us by Jesus the Christ, we should never teach religion in the public school system, That being said, We can't inhibit the free expression of it either.

Historical religious references are paramount to a true understanding of not only our own history, but that of the world. To remove religion from textbooks would nullify history from the birth of man to the industrial revolution.

This imagined idea of the separation of church and state is a two edged sword. If you can't condone it then you, by definition, lose the ability to inhibit it.If you are not required to believe as I do then you cannot be required to limit that belief.

Please don't misunderstand. I do not want the Government to approve of my religious beliefs. But I do want them to respect and protect my right to do so. and by extension, my children.
